How to play

Everything you need to know about the three game modes, the money ladder and the lifelines.

Classic

You face fifteen multiple-choice questions, each with four possible answers. The questions start easy and get harder as the money grows, from $100 for question 1 up to $1,000,000 for question 15.

Pick an answer, then confirm it as your final answer. If you're right, you climb one rung of the money ladder. If you're wrong, the game ends.

Safe havens

Questions 5 and 10 are safe havens. Once you answer them correctly, $1,000 and then $32,000 are guaranteed — a later wrong answer drops you back to the last safe haven, not to zero.

Walking away

Before you lock in an answer you can walk away and keep everything you have banked so far. Sometimes the smartest move is to stop.

The clock

With the default show pace you get 30 seconds for questions 1–5, 45 seconds for questions 6–10, and unlimited time for the last five. You can change or turn off the timer in the game settings.

Lifelines

You have four lifelines, and each can be used once per game:

  • 50:50 — Two wrong answers disappear, leaving the right one and one wrong one.
  • Ask the Audience — The studio audience votes for the answer they believe is right.
  • Phone a Friend — Call a friend for their best guess — they're usually right on the easy ones.
  • Switch the Question — Swap the current question for a new one of the same difficulty.

Marathon

An endless run. The questions get harder every five correct answers, you have the four lifelines once each, and you get 2 minutes for each question. One wrong answer or a timeout ends the run, and your score is the number of correct answers.

Time Attack

You have 180 seconds to answer as many questions as you can. A wrong answer doesn't end the run, but it takes 5 seconds off the clock. There are no lifelines.

Ranked play and fairness

Marathon and Time Attack runs are always refereed by our server: the correct answer never reaches your device before you answer, and the clock is kept on the server. Anyone can play them; sign in with Google to put your score on the leaderboard.

About the questions

Questions are written by an AI question writer natively in each language and checked automatically. Around 40% are about the culture where your language is spoken. If a question looks wrong, use “Report a mistake” after the answer is revealed.
